Monday: Ryder Cup is all done, back to America!!

Well we did not get to witness and American victory today but what an amazing Ryder Cup to see in person.  The US team charged out there and gave it there all.  The Euros just had such a good day yesterday it was easier for them to pick up the win.  We had a great time following Bubba and cheering him on, but he just ran into a buzzsaw today named Jimenez.  i had my American flag wrapped around my shoulders and held high for him to see to keep him going.  On 2 green he came over and gave Chas a hug and a high five from me and he was on his way.  It was a great match and Bubba just couldnt get some of the putts to fall.  Jimenez was chipping in from off the green and taking advantage of short putts.  It was great to watch him compete for his country and he did it with great respect and dignity.  I was proud.
After watching the end of that match we headed to 17 thinking it was a good place to sit and watch the tv and little did we know it was going to be a great place to watch the last few matches come in.
We did not think starting the day that the American team would have much of a chance unless they came out firing on all cylinders, and they actually did!  We were watching the tv screen with anticipation of a possible comeback, running all the scenarios in our head.  And here comes Rickie Fowler on a birdie train!  The putt he drained on 17 was awesome to see in person and the 18th hole putt was just as exciting.  He really proved himself today and made Corey look pretty smart.
Then it was down to the last match and Hunter was clawing back.  Then Graham cracker hit a great putt on 16 and the momentum was just to much to for him to conquer.  Watching what took place on 17 was hard to watch because he is such a great player and that sort of pressure not many people get to feel.
All in all the week was fantastic.  I got to see a Ryder Cup in a foreign  country in person.  I meet two great new friends in Larry and Ruth Moody.  Got to watch my great friend Bubba and Angie battle it out.  And most of all got to spend time with my lovely wife Chas.  See all of you soon and hope the blog was enjoyable to keep up with.  I am so ready for home and you really fget to appreciate how well we have it back in the states when you visit another country.  HOME SWEET HOME!!

Thanks

Sunday: Part 2

It was a great day to relax for Chas and I.  With the matches starting so late in the day we stayed in and watched it all at the casino. It was not in the Americans favor.  But we are great at singles and i hope we can get some points or halves early for a chance to win this thing. I know one thing for sure is that Bubba going off early his point will defenitely count towards the final tally. Our shuttle leaves at 7 for the course and we will post up on hole #1 and wait for Bubba to come through and then begin our march to a USA point!!
We are looking forward to getting out there and screamin and yellin for our American boys.  Taking the full size American Flag tommorow so look out for me on TV. Short blog tonight but I will have details for tommorow night and hopefully it will be good!

Sunday: Play suspended, looks like Monday golf!!

Well as you woke up to see, play has been suspended again and will resume at 1:30 our time and 8:30 your time.  They will finish the matches today and play the singles matches tommorow morning starting at 9:00 am our time.  We will be there ready for that but for today we are gonna watch it on TV.  I know, I know..you are all thinking you wouldnt miss a shot if you were here but believe me it is a heck of a time watching in the rain and mud and you kinda need to pick your battles wisely.  So for the mean time we are gonna recharge the old battery and get ready for some serious cheering tommorow!!

Here are some fun and weird facts about Wales to lighten the day:

Gas here cost about 9 american dollars per gallon

Taxis here drive very very fast

Lamb is the Welsh food of choice over here, but chicken and bbq still have my heart

You have to put your room key in a slot in the wall to turn on any electronics in  your room

Europeans from what we have experienced are not as courteous as southern charm back home, and they drink a lot, all day

Architecture around here is head and shoulders above home, of course they have been living here a lot longer than us

Every intersection here is a traffic circle and i get dizzy and confused each time we encounter one, I wouldnt last a second driving over here

As a tourist you have to walk everywhere, and get lost, and then found, and then lost again

Chas and I have managed to blow up a converter for electronics, melt a Chi straightner (hair straightner for the guys out there) down to the core, set off the alarm in the elevator which is on the wrong side of the elevator, our money is basically useless over here because the exchange rate is garbage

Oh yeah, and the weather is less than to be desired, it rains a lot

Words we have learned to love and used quit often over here: Cheers (which is said for everything), Buggar (which is a word of disguist i think), Brilliant (which they say to sound smarter than me)

The local Pizza Hut is a fancy place, not like home

Service in the restaurants over here are not what we are used to, they take there time serving and getting out food, like two hours for dinner....this is why we went to mcdonalds and pizza hut

Did I mention the sun does not exist over here

Let me describe the breakfast buffet in the hotel: Red beans, potato cakes, blood sausage, pancakes, scrambled eggs, fried eggs, toast, hot tomatoes...so breakfast has been an experience

Their grocery store over here is called tesco and it is small and limited to what you can buy, they are very simple over here nand dont need huge harris teeters on every corner, but Starbucks is on every corner, I even think I saw two of then side by side

Thats all for now, but I might have more later!

Saturday: USA takes the lead!!

Today was a great day for USA....the beginning.  This morning preggors and I loaded up on the 6 o clock bus to head out to the golf course.  I was dead set on following shot for shot in bubbas group.  And I did.  Chasity on the other hand made for about 6 holes and headed to the PGA pavilion to watch in the tent.
It is a lot of walking on this golf course.  More than any other golf tournament Ive been to.  Plus the fact that 1000 people are on each hole it is tough to get around.  Oh yeah, dont forget the big mess of
mud on almost every step.  Butthrough it all i was hear to root on Bubba and team USA.  The morning match was an extension of yesterday and Overton played unreal draining birdies from everywhere.
They played as a perfect team.  Bubba and Overton secured the first point for USA!  What a feeling taht must have been and I could see it on their faces.  Soon after those matches were over the next match was underway and I followed it til the end as well.  It was a hard fought match but Luke Donald was just to strong and the home crowd was definetely playing its part as the 13th man.  It was great to see the guys all play so well and get the matches to USA 6 and europe 4.  You really have to cheer hard out here for anyone to hear you.
You are 100 USA fans per every 1000 and we had to give it 100 percent every shot!!  We were able to talk to Bubba a few times during the match as well as Angie.  It was great for them to see some familiar faces and American fans! So after Bubbas second match I headed back to the pavilion to grab Chas and after watching a few holes on Tv of Session 3 we headed of to the shuttles.
Pizza Hut was pretty good as soon as we got back.  Now we relax and get ready for a long day back at the golf course.  No 6 o clock shuttle for us tommorow, we are gonna sleep in a little and catch the beggining of the singles matches and get Bubba another point.  So as of right now we have a 2 point lead and we are down in all six matches , but i have a good feeling about
tommorow and need to be on my A game cheering them on!!

p.s. the local news channel just informed us that US tourist should avoid public places because of the threat of
Al Queda attacks in the UK.  Pretty weird, but Im not worried!

Friday: Ryder Cup is here, and it is collecting water!

The Ryder Cup is pretty much the coolest sporting event I have ever been to.  Yes, It rained all day.  Yes, the travel to the vent takes a toll. Yes, my wife is 29 weeks pregnant.  But we are at the Ryder Cup in Wales and we r pumped!!  We went early this morning, 5:45, to make sure we made it for the first tee shot.
It was raining hard the whole time we were there.  We watched the first few holes on the big screen in the pavilion with a whole lot of people.  I left Chas and Ruth at the pavilion and Larry and I
made our way out into the madness.

It was a big heaping slop of mud.  But we caught up to Bubba and Jeff on two in time to see bubba drain the birdie putt!!  These two guys look like they are gonna play awesome this weekend.
After a few holes they of course suspended play and we made our way back to the PGA pavilion and it was packed.  Had to sit on floor for about an hour and a half.  After waiting and starting to get the
that they were not gonna restart for a long while, we bolted.  We were both soaking wet and needed a break.  i dont mind getting wet and watching golf, but sitting around waiting and being wet is another thing.
We got back to the hotel around 2 and took a little cat nap and got the word of the restart at 5.  We headed to the only place with the SKY sports channel, a casino.  Yes, there is no sports channel in our hotel room.
Just a bunch of channels with people talking that i cant understand.  There is one channel we watch a lot that plays reruns of Friends and Scrubs!
In the casino there was a huge following of USA fans.  It was great watching the tide turn towards the American team.  Then the sessions came out for the next two days and the way they are going out means everyone will play both sessions.  Bubba will play 5 times! We are gonna wake up early again tommorow and catch the back nine of bubba and jeff's round.  We are gonna follow Bubba all day tommorow and hope we come out with some points!! The duo of Jeff and Bubba look strong and so do the rest of the players.  MOMENTUM USA!!!  So far the forecast is for no rain tommorow so we will see how it goes.

Thursday: Anticipation rises!!

Today was another great day in Wales.  We went early this morning and checked out the Cardiff castle and it was awesome.  Some parts of the walls were built by the Romans in 55 AD.  Man that was a long time ago.  We took a lot of pictures of the Castle and will post one for everyone to see.  We then headed back to the hotel to get ready to leave for the opening ceremonies at the Celtic Manor.  After a lengthly shuttle ride we arrived to the golf course and it seemed as though everyone in Wales was already there.
We were destined to sit a long way away.

We walked over to the clubhouse and noticed as we were in a huge crowd of people
that I could see Bubba's trainer Fish in the doorway.  I called him over and he asked if we had armbands for the ceremonies.  I replied no and five minutes later he had two armbands for us to watch the ceremonies up close.  We walked in and it was about to start and we made are way up to the 5th row and sat with Bubba's caddie Ted Scott and Angie's parents.  It was unreal to be that close to the action.  What a great time watching the ceremonies. We were excited to hear of Bubba's match in the foursomes and will be up bright and early to get there for the first and last shot of his round.  All the American players looked geared up and ready to go.  These guys are lickin there chops to get out there and prove themselves.  It will be an exciting atmosphere tommorow and Wales is rockin!!

Short blog tonight as we need to get to sleep for what looks to be a long, wet day tommorow!

Wednesday: Taking it easy

After yesterday visiting the golf course we decided to relax and sleep in.  It was phenomenal!!  We decided not to go to the course today and that we would go tommorrow and watch the opening ceremonies.  So today was dedicated to walking around downtown Cardiff and what a sight it was.  It is the biggest area to shop in I have ever seen.  It was like New York City but cleaner and prettier.  The streets are all paved with concrete pavers and pedestrians are everywhere.  We had lunch at Mcdonalds and it was 10 times better and cleaner than back home.  Food was very tasty!!

We then decided we would check out the Cardiff Castle.  Come to find out it was closed for the day because the two teams were having dinner there tonight and then going to the Gala and Concert afterwards.  So after strolling around town a little we headed back to the hotel to get ready for the big Gala.

After sliding on my suit, rockin a red tie, red pocket square and red socks we were on our way!! The wife was a glowing image of a very happy pregnant woman. We went inside the Millenium Stadium and it was unreal how nice it was set up.  We did not have our camera so we were pretty bummed, but what a sight.  Three course meal, first class service and entertainment were in order.  We had traditional Welsh Lamb as the main course and it was mighty tasty.  Afterwards we joined the main part of the stadium and got settled in for the big concert.  We sat with the European caddies and we were on the second row.  The American caddies were back at the Celtic Manor resting and probably bonding or drawing up some game plans for the weekend.

First we were introduced to the evenings entertainment by Catherine Zeta Jones and Prince Charles , we were then serenated by Katherine Jenkins and she was an unbelievable singer.  Then it was time for the fellas from each team and their wives to come out on the stage and be introduced.  Americans were announced first and it was great to see Bubba and Angie up on the stage, they looked great!  All of the American team looked excited and ready to go.  Then the Euros came out and also looked great.  Then soon after talking to the two captains the players exited the stage.  All the US players noticed our small group of followers and acknowledged us all, it was a great night.

Time to go to sleep now, but more fun tommorow.  We are gonna go early and check out the Castle then depart for the golf course around 2 to check out the opening ceremonies.  Pictures are down below so check em out!

GO USA!!
